Transportation in Zadar

Zadar's transport scene is compact and walkable, but you'll still lean on three main tools: local buses that fan out from the peninsula to suburbs and nearby towns, taxis for door-to-door convenience, and the growing network of ride-hailing apps that undercut cab fares by a noticeable margin. The city's bus station sits just outside the Old Town gate, making it the natural hub for day trips to national parks and coastal villages. Buy tickets at the kiosk, not from the driver, to avoid the on-board surcharge. First-timers should know the Old Town itself is largely car-free, delightful until you're wheeling luggage over polished stone. If you're staying inside the walls, arrange drop-off at the closest gate and walk the last 100 m. For longer hops, the Liburnija city buses use a single zone, so one ticket covers you from the marina to the big shopping malls. Validate once and ride for the full 60 minutes. Skip the "tourist train" that circles the peninsula, it's slow, pricey, and you'll see more on foot in half the time. From Zadar Airport, the Pleso Prijevoz shuttle meets most scheduled flights and delivers you to the central bus station in about 20 minutes, cheap and reliable. If you land late or the shuttle's gone, the taxi rank outside arrivals is your fallback. Insist on the meter or agree the fare before you load the bags, as unlicensed drivers hover near the exit.
