Climate conditions and crowd levels for each month of the year.
January in Zadar is quiet and cool, with highs of 10°C (51°F) and lows around 4°C (39°F), about 74 mm of rain spread across the month, and very few tourists. The old town belongs almost entirely to locals. There's something appealing about that.
February is similar: 11°C (52°F) by day, 4°C (39°F) at night, 64 mm of rain, still very much off-season. The days are getting slightly longer and the light starts to improve.
March begins to feel like something is shifting: highs reach 13°C (56°F) and lows 6°C (43°F), rainfall is around 64 mm, and while it's still a jacket month, the occasional bright day gives a preview of what's coming.
April is where Zadar starts waking up properly: 16°C (61°F) highs and 9°C (48°F) lows, 71 mm of rain, and the city's outdoor spaces start coming back to life. Comfortable for walking. Light layers needed in the evening.
May is one of the most agreeable months: highs of 21°C (70°F), lows of 13°C (56°F), 64 mm of rain, and long enough days to get a lot done. The sea is still cool for swimming but everything else is working well.
June marks the beginning of proper summer: 25°C (77°F) highs, 17°C (62°F) lows, 53 mm of rain, and crowds arriving noticeably. The evenings along the Riva are warm enough to sit outside comfortably late into the night.
July is peak summer: 28°C (82°F) highs, 19°C (66°F) lows, just 30 mm of rain for the entire month. Hot, sunny, and busy. The sea organ draws crowds at sunset. Beaches fill up by mid-morning.
August matches July almost exactly: 28°C (82°F) and 19°C (66°F), with slightly more rain at 51 mm but still firmly dry-season territory. The warmest Adriatic water of the year.
September is a transitional month worth treating carefully: highs of 24°C (75°F) and lows of 16°C (60°F) suggest it's still warm, and it is, but 104 mm of rain means you'll likely encounter a few serious downpours. The sea is at its warmest. Crowds thin out after the first week or two. The city feels more relaxed.
October brings 20°C (68°F) highs and 12°C (54°F) lows, 107 mm of rain, and noticeably shorter days. It can be lovely between the storms: golden light, empty streets. But you need to accept that the weather will be unpredictable.
November cools further to 15°C (59°F) highs and 8°C (46°F) lows, with another 107 mm of rain. Off-season has properly arrived. Zadar reverts to its working-town self.
December sits at 11°C (53°F) highs and 5°C (41°F) lows, 94 mm of rain, and a quieter atmosphere that some travelers find appealing for exploring without pressure.
